About John

John Granville Marshall III, aged 58, of Spokane, Washington, passed away on December 17th, 2023.

John was born on September 12, 1965, to John and Carol Marshall in Washington, DC. After John graduated from Mainland Regional High School in 1983, John received a BA in English from Eastern Washington University and a Masters in Teaching from Washington State University.

After graduation, John started his career as a teacher at Shaw Middle School where he went on to meet his future wife Becky. John also taught at Mt. Spokane High School, North Central High School and Mead High School. John was tremendously proud of his involvement in the creation of a design thinking curriculum at Riverpoint Academy starting in 2012 and the resulting Design Studio at Mead High School where he worked until this Fall.

John was predeceased by his father, John Granville Marshall, Jr. and his in-laws, Harry and Sue Hart.

John is survived by a large and loving family, including his wife Becky, his children Josh, Arthur, Lily, and Charlotte, his daughter-in-law Simone, and his grandchildren Alden and Ellis. Additionally, John is survived by his mother, Carol Ann Marshall, and his brother Clay.

A celebration of life will be held on February 3rd, 2024 at Mead High School at 302 West Hastings Road in Spokane, Washington at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support the creation of a new scholarship fund in his name.
